Cautions: language, violence and some gore, mild sensuality and some ethical confusion
Mission: Impossible is the classic over-the-top espionage movie, with gadgets ranging from private helicopters to explosive chewing gum, and enemies ranging from international arms dealers to the CIA. Mission: Impossible is something of a niche-market movie, providing a couple of hours of worthwhile entertainment only for those who can handle the violence, manage the inappropriate language, and appreciate the movie’s quirky thrills all at the same time.

Violence, Intensity and Some Gore
The camera cuts away just before a man is stabbed through the eyes. Characters, including women, are shown being knifed and shot to death in very intense scenes. Other characters are killed in car and helicopter explosions.
Excessive blood is occasionally shown after a shooting or stabbing. A female spy, playing dead in order to gain information, is shown with blood all over.
A female spy is frisked and flung around by a man.
Mild Sensuality
The main character, Ethan, and a female spy embrace and kiss as part of their cover.
Female characters wear a shoulder-baring dress and a short skirt for a scene each.
A villain states his confidence in a woman’s charms, saying he had “tasted the goods”.
Some Ethical Confusion
In order to save lives and prevent the international exposure of all CIA non-official-cover agents, the main characters infiltrate CIA headquarters, hack the system and steal information. In order to accomplish this, the main characters enlist disavowed agents with sketchy and/or criminal backgrounds. One character, after having his name cleared, tells someone that he’s “gonna miss being disreputable.”
Ethan is obviously attracted to a married woman, although he does not act on his attraction.
Note:
Another spy who believes that Ethan is the villain tells him, “You’re determined to shake hands with the devil, and I just want to make sure you do it in hell.”
Characters are drugged, and one injection is seen up close.
Cigarettes appear.
A man vomits off screen twice.
